My Web site hustle- the beginning...............

All I can say is: "WOW" ....The last few days working through the SiteSell process have been amazing. Both my daughters are working along with me and although I asked them to help for the purpose of showing them a viable way to add value in the world and make money too, the fact is that they help me stay motivated. The money I spent on the program is another big motivator. Out of all the money making activities I've worked, none cost me so much up-front. OK - $299.00 isn't a lot of money but I can't throw that kind of money away either.

Well here is how it all begins: You watch a video explaining how the Site-Build-It (SBI) 10 "day" plan uses a proven step bye step procedure which culminates in your web site ....your business on the web. They go to great pains to get you to stay focused and not try to "jump" ahead. Of course the term they use: "day" - is just arbitrary and any "day" could take a few minutes to complete or several actual days or weeks. You proceed at your own pace but you stay focused on doing each step in order.

Right now I'm at day 3 - I have a good idea of the theme and name of my site. Next (in day 4) it's all about monetization...how the site will make money. SBI has all this down to a science and I will have a good idea of the income I'd make from the site even before I design the pages (that process doesn't start till day 6). Hey I'm not going to lie and say this is super easy....it's not. I've had to put time and energy and creativity into this from the beginning. This is what SiteSell calls BAM (Brains and Motivation)....all you need to succeed.

I feel kind of like I'm not fully expressing the power of this particular hustle. The things I'm learning about the economics of the web and the tools I'm using to get the same advantage huge companies have are amazing.............not to mention one of the best things: The community of SBI. The forums alone are worth the subscription. I wasted a lot of time thinking that if I put a good idea into motion too soon someone would come along a steal it. This is the same as feeling that there is a limited amount of success and if I get mine someone else misses out. This is simply not true. Especially when it comes to the ever expanding Internet. Trust me , if I have any success in this hustle you can do that and more.

I have always used Godaddy to register my domains (and host most of them too) but the Site Build It package includes all that in the yearly fee. I still feel that Godaddy is a great company to get cheap domains and provides great service if you want to go it yourself and attempt to save the fees. Actually doing the whole thing from scratch will teach you a lot. That knowledge could be the basis for a great web site in and of itself. Father's day...2008.....Still Relevent?

I was having a conversation with my oldest daughter the other day about my dream to become completely self-employed (or at least become a salesman on a 100% commission basis) when I became aware of how deeply the pattern of working a "safe and secure" job has become ingrained on our social DNA. I talked about an hour and still feel that things I feel are basic to freedom didn't make a dent in her idea that success is that corner office, company car, and (if you're smart) the gold watch at retirement.

I assumed (and hoped) that the general decline in public trust....the Enrons.....the inability (or lack of desire) to stop a slow moving economic disaster like the sub-prime bubble - would make younger people aware of how fragile our economy has become. As a country and as individuals it seems obvious that the more control we give others exponentially multiplies our chances for economic failure.

This is what we really get when our hustle is "on" --Control-- and even more than that we get (here's my favorite word!) -- POWER-- Yeah! I said it! Its' meaning I like most is: "The ability to do"..........So compact and so true! Ability to provide for our families, to develop ourselves to our God given potential.......To decide.

Well that's my thought for today......I realize I have like zero readership right now, but expressing my thoughts here helps me stay focused and motivated. I hope in time other like-minded individuals will join this blog and we can all benefit from collective POWER! (ooh, it tingles to say it again so soon....).
